Guest House on 2/3 acre.
Shoot days: 3
This Properties lot is unusually long and thin but large for this part of Sherman Oaks, standing at 2/3 of an acre. It is very thin for the first 130 feet from the street and then it widens abruptly. At first, the unusual shape is not noticeable due to Evan’s clever solution for the build, but it becomes apparent when shooting the front elevation of the main house. Both Evan and I scrutinized every angle until we both decided this was the best point from which to shoot the front. (Reference image this page, Left).
Another challenge with this home is Evan’s design aesthetic leans towards the dark and warm side for both interiors and exterior colors. This gives the property a slightly masculine, but warm and inviting feel. These dark colors demand additional lighting techniques and equipment to compensate for the way the interior and exterior colors absorb light.
